I’m James, the founder of We Brought Beer.
I’ve been flogging craft beer for the best part of a decade, the past 7 years of which have been through my specialist bottle shops. And over that time I’ve learnt a thing or two about how to brand, market and sell beer - from both sides of the equation.
As the industry goes through the toughest period anyone can ever remember, I decided that now’s a good time to share these learnings, to help others in the industry succeed.

Why are we launching the WBB Playbook
There’s no doubt that on a macro level, craft beer is booming right now, with more and more drinkers discovering that there is so much more to life than Peroni and Heinken 🎉
At the same time, the market is busier than ever, arguably somewhat oversaturated, making it harder and harder for independent brewers to stand out to both consumers and the trade.
Add to that the impact of the Covid pandemic, and it’s bloody tough out there right now.
All this means that breweries, pubs, restaurants and bottle shops need to be working smarter. They could do with some good advice. And I hope that we’re the people to offer it.
Over the years, I must have sold over a thousand beers through my We Brought Beer stores. I’ve seen great products. I’ve seen awful ones.
I’ve spoken to scores of sales reps, brewery owners and agencies. I’ve been pitched perfectly. And too often pitched terribly.
I’ve been blown away by some brands, and underwhelmed by others.
I’ve obsessed over more label designs than I care to imagine.
I’ve seen drinkers’ tastes evolve, packaging formats come & go (👀 bottles and key keg!) and fads become dominant.
